As for accreditation, it must be said that this is a non mandatory process in which Universities of North America privately and voluntarily take part. There are six regional accreditation private agencies in the US. The agencies do not have the same criteria regarding assessments to grant accreditation, which is often based on the states they cover and the universities that have been already accredited by the agencies.
Sometimes there are universities where accreditation is easier to obtain. The costs of the accreditation process are very high and their repercussion is very unfavorable to the price over the student benefits. Also critical voices against the procedure of accreditation arise the question of who "accredit" the "accreditors”" .... Being a private procedure.
EU cannot, given its characteristics, undergo this process because it relies on an international network that could not be evaluated for accreditation. It is not in principle only in the United States.
The United States has no Federal Ministry of Education or other centralized authority exercising single national control over postsecondary educational institutions in this country. The States assume diverse levels of control over education, but, in general, institutions of higher education are permitted to operate with considerable independence and autonomy. As a consequence, American educational institutions can vary widely in the character and quality of their programs.
Today it is possible to study in one of our Associate Centers and get a degree from an American university without leaving your country, but we recommend you to get properly informed about our lack of accreditation. Nevertheless, you will always be able to get a double diploma from any of our partner institutions which are accredited.
